Hemanta Malla is a retired Deputy Inspector General of Nepal Police. During his police career, he served in the Narcotics Control Bureau for 12 years and went to become its head, dealing with both national and international cases. He was promoted to the post of DIG in 2011. He has also served as the head of Administration Division, Metropolitan Crime Division, Training Directorate, Research and Development Directorate, Central Investigation Bureau (CIB), Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (police division), and was the chief of staff and spokesperson of Nepal Police. He has also served in the UN and was the Provincial Investigation Officer in Cambodia and Senior Police Advisor in Afghanistan. He is an active media commentator on international and national platforms like TV, radio, national broadsheet, online and weekly magazines on security crime and investigation.
